Performance Minds

Visual, sensory, and motor systems work together so a child can take part in school, play, self-care, and daily life. Performance Minds looks at all three, with vision as the foundation, and points you to the area that is getting in the way.

Grounded in the OTPF-4: client factors → performance skills → participation → occupational outcomes.

How it works

  1. Tier 1

    Core Screener · 10–12 min

One quick screen across visual, sensory, and motor performance. Shows which areas need a closer look.

  2. Tier 2

Deep dives · ~30 min each

Run only the modules the screener flags: VPA, SPA, MPA, or any combination. Each one is print-first, opens with a "Before you start" materials checklist, and includes a vision probe.

  3. Output

    One integrated report

Combined findings, priorities, intervention plan, accommodations, and a family summary.

The three deep-dive modules

VPA™ · Visual Performance Assessment

Live · short form in development

Vision is the primary focus.

Full depth: visual access, efficiency (fixation, pursuits, saccades, near-work endurance), visual processing, and visual-motor integration.

  • Visual access screen
  • Oculomotor efficiency in reading/copying
  • Visual processing (figure-ground, memory, spatial)
  • Visual-motor integration and timed reading

SPA · Sensory Performance Assessment

In development

Vision is acknowledged as the primary sensory system.

Visual attention, visual clutter tolerance, and lighting/glare responses observed alongside other systems. Concerns route to the VPA.

  • Modulation and regulation during class tasks
  • Tactile, proprioceptive, vestibular, auditory responses
  • Visual environment: clutter, light, movement
  • Self-regulation strategies and participation

MPA · Motor Performance Assessment

In development

Vision is embedded where it drives motor performance.

Visual contributions to posture, balance (eyes open vs. closed), primitive reflex integration, and eye-hand coordination. Concerns route to the VPA.

  • Postural control and core stability
  • Balance and bilateral coordination
  • Reflex integration screen
  • Fine motor, grasp, and handwriting

Keeping it practical

What you runTime
Core Screener only10–12 min
Screener + one module~40 min
Screener + all three modules~85 min (shared history and vision items aren't repeated)

Each module stands on its own. When modules are used together, intake, history, and overlapping vision items are given once and shared.
